Rajnikanth is still the mightiest star in terms of B.O pull. His last release 'Endhiran' rewrote all previous Box-office records. He will be seen next in Soundarya Rajnikanth's 3D motion-capture extravaganza, 'Kochadaiyyan'.

Rajnikanth was born into a Marathi family in Bangalore. He was the fourth child of Jijabai and Ramojirao Gaekwad, a police constable.
Rajnikanth worked as a bus conductor for the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, before venturing into films.
He debuted in films with K Balachander's 'Apoorva Raagangal' (1975), as a supporting actor.
It was SP Muthuraman, who made Rajnikanth a hero of the masses; he cast him in the lead in 'Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri' (1977) and later as the hero in 'Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai' (1979).
Rajni co-starred in many Kamal hits in the late '80s such as '16 Vayadhinile', 'Moondru Mudichu' and 'Avargal'.
The astounding success of 'Billa' (1980), a remake of Amitabh Bachchan's 'Don', made Rajnikanth a superstar. He followed it up with a row of hits, such as 'Murattu Kaalai', 'Pokkiri Raja' and 'Naan Mahaan Alla'.
Rajnikanth made his debut in Bollywood with 'Andha Kanoon', co-starring Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Madhavi.
Rajnikanth's notable Hindi films include 'Chaalbaaz', 'Uttar Dakshan', 'Giraftaar' and 'Hum'.
Rajnikanth played himself in a cameo in 'Anbulla Rajnikanth', in which Meena was a child artiste.
Rajnikanth teamed up with Mammootty to deliver a superhit in 'Thalapathy', a Mani Ratnam film.
His 'Muthu' was dubbed into Japanese as 'Muthu, the Dancing Maharaja'. The film was a huge success there.
His 100th movie was 'Sri Raghavendra', in which he played the title role of Hindu saint Raghavendra Swami.
Rajnikanth starred in 'Chandramukhi', a remake of the Malayalam superhit 'Manichitrathaazhu'. The film was a massive blockbuster.
Rajnikanth played the lead in Shankar's 'Endhiran' which smashed several collection records.
His upcoming films are 'Kochadaiyyan' and 'Rana'.
Rajni on his inspiration: 'Amitabh Bachchan is my inspiration. Actually Dilipji (Dilip Kumar) is the centre for all of us. Amitji, me, Shah Rukh, Aamir... for all of us Dilipji has been the inspiration.'
Rajnikanth on being fit at 62: 'I do yoga, I exercise. I have to be fit. That is my investment. An artiste can only invest his body. For the mind, good writers and good directors are there.'
Rajnikanth has two daughters, Aishwarya and Soundarya.
